Not so Eeeasy and a dead Heron
I will start by saying I love my Eee. I'm writing this on it - BUT...
...the OS is a bit iffy sometimes.
I got it, changed the GUI to advanced mode (so it looked like Window instead of the huge icons) and updated stuff. It crashed, I think I must have reinstalled about three times last weekend. Anyhow, it worked OK after that.
Then yesterday I decided to set up the PIM. It wasn't happy and the mail app kept closing. So I tried Mozilla's Thunderbird which was also available - that wouldn't even start up. I gave up and went to bed.
Turned it on this morning and it wouldn't boot up at all. At first it told me it was something to do with the Kmail or something and then when I turned off and tried again it just went round in a loop and would not even bring up the splash screen. In the end I F9'd and reinstalled again.
So at the moment I'm still working with the big icons. I really don't know whether to even try to install advanced mode again. Thunderbird seems to be working at least so I can get my mail.
Big question - should I install XP or not? If I do I can install Word and OneNote (probably got enough memory for that) and possibly Excel.
On top of all this my linux Hardy Heron has turned up its toes and died. It was having problem with the wired network connection and then the wireless gave up. Finally it wouldn't boot up at all today. I threw up my hands in despair and attached the monitor to my laptop so I have two monitors again - every cloud and so on...
Luckily I had already transferred my writing stuff to the Eee so I'm not too worried about lost data. I will get it sorted though and I think I'll bring it upstairs and attach to my HDTV just for the hell of it. Maybe a change of scenery will help lol.
